CFD Simulation of Combustion in a Microchannel

CFD simulation services for combustion inside a microchannel-2

This research-focused CFD project investigated combustion within a microchannel, where the small geometric scale creates strong interactions between fluid flow, chemical reactions, and heat transfer. Numerical simulation was used to examine the development of the reacting flow and provide detailed insight into temperature distribution, velocity, species transport, and flame behavior inside the confined channel.

Microchannel combustion presents particular engineering challenges because the high surface-area-to-volume ratio increases the influence of wall heat transfer, while short residence times and strong thermal gradients can affect flame stabilization and combustion efficiency. CFD provides a practical way to study these coupled phenomena and evaluate how channel geometry and operating conditions influence the stability and performance of the combustion process.

The project supported research into microscale combustion technology and demonstrated how numerical simulation can help investigate advanced energy-conversion concepts before extensive experimental development is undertaken.
