Commercial Aircraft External Aerodynamics CFD Simulation

This project used Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to investigate the external airflow around a commercial aircraft. The simulation examined velocity variations around the fuselage and wings, surface pressure distribution, flow separation, and wake development. These results helped characterize how the aircraft geometry interacts with the surrounding airflow under the simulated operating conditions.

The analysis provided engineering insight into aerodynamic factors that influence lift, drag, flow quality, and overall aircraft performance. Visualizing the pressure and velocity fields also helped identify regions that may benefit from closer investigation or geometric refinement. This type of aerodynamic performance analysis with CFD simulation can support aerospace engineers during design evaluation and performance assessment. It can also reduce reliance on early physical prototypes by allowing engineers to study complex aerodynamic behavior numerically before progressing to more expensive testing.
